BACKGROUND

Ingredient Type: Botanical

Also Known As: Plantago ovata, Blond plantain, Blond psyllium, Desert indian wheat, Ispaghul, Ispaghul plantain

Psyllium is a group of plants cultivated for their seeds, which are a source of mucilage.  Mucilage is a thick, gluey substance produced by nearly all plants, and it plays a role in the storage of water and food, seed germination, and thickening membranes.

Psyllium seed husks are used in health supplements as a source of dietary fiber to ease symptoms of both constipation and diarrhea.
