HYALURONIC ACID

BACKGROUND

Ingredient Type: Metabolite, Constituent

Also Known As: Hyaluronate sodium, Hylan, Sodium hyaluronate

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance (technically an anionic, non sulfated glycosaminoglycan) distributed widely throughout the skin, connective tissues, and nerves of the body.  It is also found in the synovial fluid of the eye.  Until the late 1970s, hyaluronic acid was described as a “goo” molecule, for its role as a lubricant in joints and tissues.

Hyaluronic acid is used in health supplements today to promote healthy joints and skin.
