BIFIDOBACTERIUM

BACKGROUND

Ingredient Type: Probiotic

Also Known As: Bifidobacterium lactis, Bifidobacterium longum

Bifidobacteria are a kind of probiotic bacteria.  Probiotics are live microorganisms that are shown to have health benefits.  They include live bacteria and yeasts, are sometimes found naturally in the body, and are often supplemented through the diet (particularly through yogurt, kefir, and fermented foods).  Probiotics are often called “good” bacteria, because they help maintain a healthy gut.  An estimated 100 trillion microorganisms representing more than 500 different species inhabit every normal, healthy bowel.

Probiotics are used in health supplements today to support bowel and vaginal health.
