Selenium is a chemical element with symbol Se and atomic number 34. It is used and glassmaking and is a semiconductor, which was important in electronics before being displaced by Silicon. Selenium is an important mineral for cellular function in animals and is consumed in the diet through nuts, cereals, and mushrooms. It is required for proper immune and thyroid function.
Selenium is used in health supplements today to promote healthy immune, thyroid, and cellular function.
